Faculty of Sport Culture

Promoting coexistence with others through sporting activities that foster intercultural understanding and provide international contribution.

Talent development vision

The Faculty of Sport Culture’s curriculum is designed to develop individuals that can facilitate international exchange and social contribution activities by teaching budo and other traditional performing arts of Japan in the context of it being the nation’s unique culture of systematized physical exercise passed down through generations; individuals that can perform well working for international sports federations, and sports-related companies based in Japan or overseas; and individuals that can thrive as municipality employees mainly promoting sports-related activities in Japan.

Targeted skills

Learn practical knowledge, skills, and theories that are rooted in Japan’s spiritual heritage.
The curriculum allows the students to learn knowledge and skills that are useful in overseas development assistance projects mainly targeting developing countries, and develop the technical ability to correctly teach and spread budo and other traditional physical performance culture unique to Japan, with a view toward promoting mutual understanding among different countries through sports. The students also learn necessary skills for facilitating international exchange activities involving human and physical resources in sports.

The Faculty of Sport Culture’s curriculum is designed to develop individuals that are capable of applying practical skills and theories in development assistance, international cooperation, international exchange, etc. involving the sports that are rooted in Japan’s spiritual heritage, for the main goal of promoting mutual understanding between countries through those sports. The Faculty consists of the two Departments, which are Budo Education and Sport Studies for International Community.

Curriculum is mainly designed to enhance skills, and synergistic effects between, budo/traditional performing arts, instruction capability, and globalmindset.

The curriculum includes a variety of courses for learning knowledge and skills related to Japan’s unique culture. It encompasses Japan-originating sports such as judo, kendo, and sumo as well as noh, kabuki, and other traditional performing arts.

Department of Sport Studies for International Community

Curriculum is mainly designed to enhance, and promote synergistic effects between, cultural diversity, instruction capability, and global mindset.

To facilitate international exchange activities with another country effectively, it is essential to have a mind that is willing to understand the other country’s culture and customs. With this crucial point in mind, the curriculum includes a variety of courses that promote the students’ ability to understand and appreciate various cultures in relative terms, with sports being at the core. It also includes fieldwork that is conducive to practical skill development.
